John 14:6 (NET) – Jesus replied, “I am the way, the truth, and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
The destination of every Christian is heaven.
Scripture reminds us that we have one way to get there and
that is through Jesus.
That makes our days on earth, a journey.
That means each of us is a traveler making his way home.
I have always believed that each of us is on a journey and that
no two journeys are alike.
I was reminded of that this weekend when some friends and I
traveled to a church about ninety minutes away for a meeting.
On the way back home, we took a different road in order to
see an old church building that played a very important part in our history.
One of the unique aspects of my journey is that English is
not my only language, nor is it my first.
My first language was Czech as my parents spoke it at home and
with family.
I learned English out of necessity but there will always be a
special place in my heart for the Czech language.
When we arrived at the old church, the first thing that
caught my eye was a sign above the door.
The fact that the sign was written in Czech brought back a
flood of wonderful memories.
I was so grateful to God that I was able to read the sign that
stated…
Já jsem ta cesta i pravda i život slova Ježíše Krista
The direct translation is…
I am the way and the truth and the life – words of Jesus Christ.
I cannot begin to describe the feeling that came over me as I
read these words in the first language I knew.
One thing made the experience even more special was the word
“cesta”.
Since I was a boy, I have always translated the Czech word “cesta”
as “road” in English.
So, that is the way I initially read it.
I am the road and the truth and the life – words of Jesus Christ.
In a way, I like this translation as well.
It reminds me that as I make my journey through this world, I
do not travel alone.
I have a constant companion with me on the road of life and I
can ask for no better traveling companion than Jesus Christ.
And though each of our journeys is different, He travels with
us all.
I’ll see you down the road.
Blessings,
